Services We Offer
Eye Examinations
A full eye exam is much more than reading letters on a board. We assess your vision, eye health, and overall wellbeing. From testing your prescription (refraction) to checking eye muscle coordination and internal health, Mary ensures nothing is missed.
Why it matters:
Regular eye tests help detect early signs of conditions like glaucoma, diabetes, and ocular hypertension, often before symptoms appear.
Refraction Tests
These help us calculate your exact prescription (refraction) and measure the Pupillary Distance (PD), the space between your pupils. This ensures your lenses align perfectly with your eyes.
Why it matters:
Poor PD alignment can lead to headaches, eye strain, or blurry vision - even with the correct prescription.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
We use Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to scan beneath the surface of your retina, like an ultrasound for the eye.
Why it matters:
This non-invasive, high-tech scan helps us spot early signs of age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and more, sometimes years before symptoms arise.
Corneal Topography
A detailed map of the curvature of your cornea (the front part of the eye), essential for certain contact lenses and myopia management.
Why it matters:
Ideal for fitting custom lenses, diagnosing keratoconus, and managing vision in growing children.
Myopia Management
For children whose short-sightedness is getting worse, we offer a range of treatments to slow down myopia progression using specially designed glasses or contact lenses.
Why it matters:
Controlling myopia early reduces future eye health risks like retinal detachment or severe vision loss later in life.
Eyecan Voucher
We’re proud to participate in the EYECAN Children’s Spectacles Voucher Scheme, supporting families in need. Islanders under 12 can receive up to £150 off qualifying prescription eyewear when using an Eyecan voucher. Just bring the signed voucher with your child’s date of birth and JY number, Mary will handle the rest.
Intuitive Colourimetry & Visual Stress (Meares–Irlen Syndrome)
Mary is the only optometrist in Jersey offering this specialist service. We test for visual stress, a sensitivity to patterns or text, often experienced as flickering, blurring, or letters "dancing" on the page.
This is the scientifically validated test. It is sometimes confused with the Meares–Irlen Syndrome test, which also uses tinted lenses to reduce visual strain, but is not the same as the scientific assessment.
Why it matters:
This condition affects reading and concentration, especially in children. If you or your child struggle with reading, concentration, or light sensitivity, we can assess whether visual stress is the cause.
Through screening and Intuitive Colourimetry, Mary identifies your unique tint needs and crafts precision filters or lenses that calms your visual processing, helping words stay still and clear.
Now available in contact lens form as well as spectacle lens form, which would suit those who would prefer not to wear tinted spectacles.
